Dr. Zuker has been actively involved in veterinary medicine since she was in high school. She earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree (DVM) at Michigan State University in 2012. While in veterinary school, she worked for the Advanced Rehabilitation Center for Animals and fell in love with how physical rehabilitation can impact the lives of pets. She completed her rehabilitation program simultaneously and earned her Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) certification from the University of Tennessee in June 2012. After graduation, Dr. Zuker accepted a position in Florida and has been practicing small animal medicine, surgery and physical rehabilitation.
Dr. Zuker has completed many additional certifications to help provide better quality of life for her patients. Also at the University of Tennessee, she completed the “Canine Osteoarthritis Case Manager” certification. Through the American Institute of Medical Laser Application she completed the “Scientific Basics of Medical Lasers”, “Medical Laser Safety” and “Laser Therapy Principles in the Companion Animal Practice” certifications. Most recently, she did advanced training in Canine Orthotics and Prosthetics through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute to help injured or disfigured pets regain mobility. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association and the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management. She is currently working towards earner her Certified Veterinary Pain Practitioner credentials.
Andrew Smith - Practice Manager
Andrew began his introduction to the veterinary field when he married Sarah in 2002. He has always loved animals and grew up with cats until a dog with one white paw stole his heart. Andrew is very excited to begin a new career managing the practice. He and Sarah are both very excited to meet and build relationships with Mackinaw’s clients and patients.
Dr. Zuker and Andrew were both born and raised in Shiawassee County. Together they purchased Mackinaw Veterinary Associates in November of 2016. They are very happy to be back in mid-Michigan and to raise their daughter with her family and small town, mid-western values. When they are not at the clinic, they enjoy road trips, concerts, playing outdoors with their daughter and doting on their pets.
Kayla - Veterinary Assistant - Team Leader
Kayla has always been an animal enthusiast. She would watch Animal Planet as a kid, dreaming about the day it would be her helping and caring for animals. She was the kid that always brought home stray and wild animals.
Kayla has a son named Waylon and three fur babies; a dog named Mac and two cats, Chester and Oz. She likes spending free time with her family or out in nature. Some hobbies she enjoys are art, traveling, camping and hiking.
Brittney - Licensed Veterinary Technician
Brittney graduated in 2019 from Baker College. She loves everything about her job as a veterinary technician. She loves the science behind things and figuring the what, why and how we can help pets. She is always looking to grow her knowledge and learn new things as medicine is always changing. Being able to have a voice for those that have no voice is why she choose this field.
She has 2 kids, 5 dogs, 2 cats and a bearded dragon. In her free time, she plays Roller Derby. She enjoys doing sports with her kids, camping and road trips. She loves being outdoors and making memories with friends and family.
Emma - Veterinary Assistant
Like many, Emma knew from a very young age that she's one day pursue a career working with animals. She first stepped foot into Veterinary Medicine back in 2021 while completing the Veterinary Science course at Bay Arenec ISD. Emma was hired as a Veterinary Assistant at a nearby veterinary clinic where with time, she worked her way through many of the offered positions. She does not plan on stopping there and is currently taking course and working towards acquiring her license as a Veterinary Technician. At the moment, Emma has four pets in total, three kitties by the names of Ally, Khloe and Spooky and a Golden Retriever named Sammie. She has several hobbies including photography, golf and anything pertaining to nature. Emma loves to learn and is always eager to help and educate others to the best of her ability.
Chloe - Veterinary Assistant
Chloe has had a passion for animals and science since she was very young. She is currently studying at Saginaw Valley State University, working toward her DVM degree.
She enjoys spending time with her horses and dog, hunting and being outdoors. In the summer months, she competes in barrel racing.
Diane - Receptionist
Diane has been with Mackinaw Veterinary since 2013, bringing with her decades of experience in customer service and business management. She possess a degree in data management along with an associates degree in accounting. Diane's grandson Kaden and their dog Chip reside with her.
Chelsea - Receptionist
Chelsie is a mother of two daughters and a wife to her husband of 6 years. She has been in the medical field for 10+ years now. Her primary trade was dentistry but she also has CNA, reception, and patient coordinating experience. Chelsie stepped down from her career in dentristry to return to school to earn her Associates in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technology and continue her education journey. She absolutely loves the medical field, technology, and the advances in medicine. Chelsie feels it has been amazing jumping into different professions and learning so many different things. She is so grateful that Dr. Zuker and Manager Andy support education and have opened their doors to let her learn more about their profession while she is in school. Veterinary medicine is so incredibly interesting and she feels so fortunate to be a part of their team!
Eddie - Official Greeter
Eddie has been with Mackinaw Veterinary since 2018. He enjoys greeting all dogs and people that walk by and often brings them a toy to show off. He would love to greet the cats too, as he loves his kitties at home, but they are a little harder to greet through carriers ;)
